Book of Hours
2024

Book of Hours explores the relationship between time, attention, and creativity. Users can select a frequency to receive either short, gnomic prompts or jokes throughout the day. These periodic interruptions are designed to disrupt habitual thought patterns and encourage users to reflect on time's structure, elasticity, and relation to the creative process, or in the case of jokes, provide a quick laugh. Users are prompted to write a quick diary entry recording their thoughts about the prompt or joke. These are saved on the user's device for later review.

ArtWars (prototype)
2022

Simulated art market. With Pinky Yuen and Taylor Lovell. Art Wars is a prototype. It is a browser-based, advanced-level simulation game exploring the secondary art market. Players are art flippers and navigate provenance disputes, market fluctuations, and the impact of forgeries on the market. The game simulates the operations of legal loopholes, such as untraceable transactions, guaranteed sales via irrevocable bids, auction-house loans against artwork, and tax avoidance strategies facilitated by freeports or the display of a work ‘in public’ for a minimum period. Through gamification, Art Wars reveals how legal gray areas shape the culture industry. A full app version is in development.

Roadside Photography
2021

Roadside Photography is an interactive map built from 11,710 photographs in the John Margolies Roadside America Photograph Archive at the Library of Congress. Users re-organize the data through a variety of filters: year, subject, location, etc. The map repopulates with each new selection to visually reveal patterns in Margolies’s travels and aesthetic interests. It also demonstrates the changes in the American roadside from 1970 to 2008. The project opens the archive in a new and creative way via an interactive, research-driven interface.

Expensive Trader
Expensive Taste
2021

Expensive Taste transforms historic art auction data into a “this or that” game. Players choose which artwork fetched the higher hammer price, encouraging reflection on the monetization of art within a global economy and alongside rising inequality and deregulation. It challenges players to consider factors influencing the market value of artworks within a global arena, thus connecting abstract concepts with real-world events.
